It began in earnest with the phenomenon of Elena Ferrante and her translator Ann Goldstein, but finally literary translators are emerging from the shadows to share some of the fame enjoyed by authors. Tonight our champion MC Michael Reynolds, editor-in- chief of Europa Editions, pits titan Portuguese translators Julia Sanches and Bruna Dantas Lobato against each other as they translate Susana Moreira Marques, and translators from the Dutch, Marjolijn de Jager and Annemarie Mattheyse go head-to-head over Tommy Wieringa’s work. Don’t miss this battle to the death, where we examine what happens when we transform narratives from one language to another.

Proudly co-presented by PEN America and Nuyorican Poets Café.
